On December 6, 2024, a coalition of animal rights organizations, including Nepal Vegetarian Association, staged a protest at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu, denouncing the animal cruelty inflicted upon elephants during the Chitwan Elephant Festival.
The protest centered on the festival’s various events, particularly elephant polo, which the groups say involve significant suffering for the animals. Activists held banners and chanted slogans calling for an end to the festival and its exploitative practices.
